Atypical is an artificial intelligence & learning science lab focused on creating novel AI-enabled solutions for personalized tutoring, teaching, and the measurement of student success. We ground our work in the most recent learning science and AI breakthroughs, and create experiences that are impactful, engaging, and easy to understand and use.

We enable educators and learners with content creation, interactivity, collaboration, and personalization—powered by artificial intelligence and guided by human-centered design. We build with a diversity-first mindset, focusing foremost on creating a safe, equitable, and accessible experience with artificial intelligence.

The Team

Woman owned and with a majority woman board, we are a diverse group of thinkers and operators, hailing from many countries, backgrounds and disciplines. Atypical’s founding team has scaled companies from zero to IPO and beyond, and includes senior execs & researchers from Google AI, Google X, Minerva Project, SpaceX, and Stanford.

Why “Atypical?”

We believe that there are no typical learners. Every person is unique. The power and promise of artificial intelligence in education is being able to help each learner in their unique way, while moving cohorts ahead together and fostering insightful and high-value teacher-student interactions.

Our Founder’s work building educational AI platforms at scale for global markets and with stringent accessibility standards also showed her how this can be a value-add for all customers which engage in diversity-focused products.
